Event Background
Food Angel is a food rescue and food assistance program launched in 2011 with the mission of "Waste Not, Hunger Not, With Love".
The program rescues edible surplus food from different sectors of the food industry that would otherwise be disposed of as waste. Following strict safety protocols, the rescued food items will then be prepared as nutritious meals in our central kitchens and food packs. They will be distributed to serve the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.
Currently, Food Angel rescues 33 tonnes of edible surplus food each week, producing over 20,000 nutritious meals and helping distribute over 6,500 other meals and food packs daily free of charge for people who are in need of food assistance. At the same time, Food Angel actively promotes food waste education to teach the next generation to cherish resources, protect the environment, reduce food waste at the source, and help alleviate hunger and poverty.
To mark our 15th anniversary, we are organising this city-wide orienteering fundraising campaign. The event aims to bring the community together and help secure the resources needed to continue supporting those in need of food assistance.
Objectives of Event
Raise funds for Food Angel to support our food rescue and assistance services for the needy community.
1. Increase public awareness of food donation and food waste reduction, promoting our mission of “Delivering Food with Love”.
2. Encourage participation from all sectors of the community to broaden the impact of the “Waste Not” culture.
